CHRISTMAS may have appeared to come eight months early for a major supermarket chain which has been selling festive season chocolates.
Less than a week after the Easter bunny dropped by, a Brisbane mother was gobsmacked to find a towering display of Christmas Limited Edition Cadbury Favourites chocolates at the Woolworths supermarket at Cannon Hill.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” shopper Kelly told The Courier-Mail.
“I had to look twice … we just finished Easter.”
Not only were they apparently on display almost eight months to the day before Santa was coming to town, but they were half price.
The decision to sell festive season merchandise within a week of Easter could be seen as being similar to stores selling hot cross buns within a week of Christmas Day.
But a Woolworths spokesman said the stock was left over from the 2018 festive season and they were still many months out from offering fresh 2019 Christmas goodies.
“This is not new stock. We have had a limited amount of leftover Christmas branded Cadbury favourites from 2018 which we have been clearing through at a special price since the beginning of the year,” he said.
