What you see in the picture is a digital rendering of the Alfa Romeo Castello, one of the two SUVs that are believed to be currently under development. While the other upcoming SUV is expected to be positioned as an entry-level SUV from the Alfa Romeo stable, the Castello (shown above) will likely be positioned above the brand’s latest offering in the SUV segment, the Stelvio.
With the launch of the Stelvio well behind them, Alfa Romeo is rumoured to be working hard on the development of these two SUVs which are expected to see production by the year 2020. Both SUVs will be based on the brand’s Giorgio platform, which is also expected to underpin all their new models.
Alfa Romeo’s Castello, in all probability, could be at the receiving end of the 510bhp 2.9-litre V6 bi-turbo petrol engine that currently powers the top-of-the-line Stelvio. On the design front, one can expect the Castello to be about the same size as the BMW X5, and styling may be heavily borrowed from stable mates like the Giulia and Stelvio.
Even though Alfa Romeo’s product plans, revealed in September 2016, told us that a full-size sedan to make it first to the market before the two SUVs, we think that it might be the SUV which will hit the market first. Now, if you were wondering why it has been raining SUVs from all car makers, blame it on the current high-riding demand from the masses.
