Jeep arrived in India with their completely built up (CBU) vehicles, priced on the expensive side thanks to high import costs and naturally, this did impact its sales. But now the manufactures are locally assembling the upcoming Compass and expect a change in its fortune.
Jeep rolled out its first ‘Made in India’, model the Compass on 1 June, 2017 in the presence of the chief minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles chief operating officer – Asia Pacific region (excluding China) Paul Alcala, and president & managing director, FCA India, Kevin Flynn. The manufacturers have invested over Rs 1800 crore in the development of the right hand drive Compass.
“The establishment of manufacturing operations and start of production of the Jeep Compass is an important milestone for our journey in India,” said Paul Alcala.
India will be the sole producer of the Jeep Compass for all the right-hand-drive markets like – Australia, UK and Japan. This indicates that the manufacturers will not compromise on the quality of the vehicle.
Jeep unveiled the Compass in early April and disclosed the details of the car. The vehicle will get a petrol unit, a 1.4-litre Multiair mill producing 160bhp/350Nm of torque while the diesel is a 2.0-litre unit producing 170bhp/350Nm of torque.
The vehicle is expected to be in full production by the month of July and reach dealerships across India in August 2017. The manufacturer will commence
