A rare blue supermoon overnight Tuesday hangs over a still decorated-for-Christmas house along Plaza Way in Walla Walla. A blue moon happens when two full moons occur in one month, and a supermoon describes a moon that is full when it comes closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it look larger and brighter than usual. Early this morning the moon also underwent a full eclipse as the Earth came between it and the sun. The last time such a lunar trifecta happened was 35 years ago; the next will be in 2037.
