The beach is always popular in Perth on Christmas Day but for the second year running, WA’s capital is looking at a mild and sunny December 25.
PERTH is heading for a milder-than-average Christmas Day after high temperatures hit early next week, including a 39C Tuesday maximum.
While the temperature will rise on Monday to 36C and peak on Tuesday, the mercury will just as quickly back off.
Christmas Eve will have a maximum of just 26C — the Bureau of Meterology predicts it will be mostly sunny but with winds southerly 30 to 45km/h.
That leads into a mild 27C on Christmas Day, which will be sunny with east to south-east winds between 15 and 25km/h. Last year Perth enjoyed a balmy 32C.
The drop in the expected temperature has seen Perth’s odds of being the hottest capital in Australia drift, and Melbourne has pushed Adelaide out of favouritism in the hottest city stakes.
A weak cold front is expected to push across the south of WA late next week, affecting Christmas Day temperatures throughout the southern half.
