Dazzling Christmas displays have transformed Manchester’s shopping streets into a winter wonderland.
By night the city boasts a glorious array of lights and decorations, headed by the huge Father Christmas in Albert Square and the giant advent calender in the Northern Quarter.
And now the festive cheer is spreading throughout the day as extra lights and adornments have been set up to keep shoppers merry as they trawl the stalls for those Xmas pressies.
Highlights include the Midland Hotel, which welcomes customers with a glistening array of green and gold. There are two Christmas trees at either side of the entrance and the arches are twinkling with fairy lights.
The roof of the Royal Exchange Arcade is decked in hanging tinsel and baubles as the throng of shoppers underneath increases by the day.
House of Fraser dominates Deansgate with its pointy trees and full length golden tassels.

And if shoppers need to take the weight of their bursting bags off their feet, they can enjoy some fine-dining under a twinkling light display at the Alchemist or enter Rosso restaurant and bar under huge snowflakes and a sparkling wreath.
At the big Christmas lights switch on Corrie star Catherine Tyldesley said: “Manchester is my favourite city because we don’t do anything by halves.”
Her words are being proved correct with these stunning displays.
